Canon 5D with Canon 24-105mm f4 L IS set at 32mm. ISO 200, 1/4 at f20, tripod. Slight cropping to remove a few distracting bits at the side of the image, and a slight saturation of colour to emulate the effect of Velvia slide film. |

The lead in to the distance is accentuated by the people, the people are giving the image a sense of scale, the dominant red is off set by
contrasting green and the crescent shaped red arches accentuate the effect of the deep long tunnel. The composition was deliberate, taking the image from a position off centre with the end of the tunnel on a third. I wondered if the image would have benefited from using a tripod to increase depth of field. However, using 1/6 at f20 would have blurred the people too much. In fact, I think that the lack of sharpness in the distance enhances the ‘disappearance in the distance’ of the end of the tunnel. |
The dark short tunnel is offset by the mixture of red, green and blue colours. The reflection in the puddles enhances image and connects the foreground to the other side of the tunnel. The eye is drawn to the clourful, intriguing spot at the end of the other side of the tunnel. The fence provides a lead in, albeit short. The tripod was essential to achieve sharpness on both sides of the tunnel. I probably should have dodged top left of the image as this is on the light side and a bit distracting. |
